The Health Benefits of AJ Broccoli Sprouts
There is a beautiful phytochemical named sulforaphane (also referred to as SFN) found in cruciferous vegetables but with the highest amounts found in broccoli sprouts. It is well studied to be anticancer, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, neuroprotective, and may even protect against aging and diabetes. The best part? We no longer need high-priced supplements to get this important phytochemical, we just need to eat live veggies like AJ broccoli sprouts!
A Great Detoxifier
Sulforaphane in broccoli sprouts boosts the body’s natural detoxification mechanisms in several ways. As an indirect antioxidant, it boosts the antioxidant capacity of cells rather than just by providing antioxidants.
Sulforaphane activates the Nrf2 and ARE pathway, which leads to increased cellular glutathione in the body. Since glutathione is the master antioxidant, this has far-reaching benefits for the body.
Protecting Against Cancer

Increase the efficacy of anti-cancer drugs (meaning a lower dose can be used).
Supporting the Heart
We already know that sulforaphane is a potent antioxidant and that it increases the body’s own antioxidant producing capabilities. For this reason, it is very anti-inflammatory and can reduce reactive oxygen species by increasing oxygen levels. Both of these mechanisms make it good for the heart and may explain why studies show it has a heart-protective effect.
But sulforaphane also benefits the heart in a couple other ways. It releases hydrogen sulfide (H2S), when chewed. This compound donate sulfur where necessary and for this reason has a cardio-protective effect.
Studies also found that it helped reduce blood pressure levels in those with hypertension and lowered triglycerides.
Finally, sulforaphane reduced levels of total cholesterol, LDL-C, CRP, and LDH.
Promoting Weight Loss
As an Nrf2 activator, sulforaphane may also promote weight loss by “amelioration of obesity through enhancing energy consumption by browning of adipocytes, and reduction of metabolic endotoxemia through improving gut bacterial flora,” according to a 2014 study at Kanazawa University.
In other words, sulforaphane helps fight obesity by changing energy consumption in the body and by improving gut flora.

In a recent study it was sown to decrease cholesterol by 20% in as little as 28 days -- The antioxidant power compared with group, recording a down-regulation of about 20% for all enzymes tested. AJ Broccoli Sprouts personal favorites
1/4 of chopped Green Cabbage
1 head of Romaine lettuce
1 whole chopped and diced carrots
2 whole chopped green onions
1 handful of finely chopped cilantro
1/4 cup of sunflower seeds (or pumpkin seed)
1/2 cup of tortilla strips
1 large handful of AJ broccoli sprouts.
1 1/4 cups coarsely chopped fresh cilantro.
1 cup olive oil.
5 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar
2 garlic cloves, peeled.
1 teaspoon red pepper flakes
1 teaspoon minced seeded serrano chile.
Add all items into large mixing bowl. Then add cilantro dressing to ingredients and mix in gently. You can choose to add the broccoli sprouts into the mixture or hold off until the end to top with AJ broccoli sprouts.
Super Southwest Broccoli Sprout Salad
1 handful of AJ Broccoli Sprouts
1 whole ripe Mango
1 handful of Spinach
2 cups of liquid of you choice: Water, Orange juice, coconut water or Almond/Hemp milk.
Combine all ingredients with vegetables on bottom and fruits on top with your blender until fully combined. Add ice for a cooler refreshment.
Broccoli sprouts and Mango Smoothie
2 slices of Sourdough bread
2 slices of Habenero Peperjack cheese
6 Slices of Honey Ham
1/4 finely sliced Roma tomato
1 large large leaf of Romaine lettuce
1 handful of AJ broccoli Sprouts
2 Slices of Kosher Dill pickles
1/2 finely sliced and seeded Jalepeno
Instructions: Assemble sandwich in the order of ingredients given and enjoy.
